Mecklenburg County high school students are invited to apply for Youth Lead Charlotte-Mecklenburg and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Youth Council.
Students in grades 9-10 are invited to apply for Youth Leadership Charlotte-Mecklenburg Class of 2017. The GenerationNation program enables diverse high school students to learn about the Charlotte-Mecklenburg community, understand the key issues (and different points of view), meet students from other schools and backgrounds, and develop knowledge and skills needed by a new generation of Charlotte-Mecklenburg leaders. Participants learn about the community’s history and growth, explore the city through a bus tour, learn from community leaders, explore civic issues and different points of view, and join a network of emerging student leaders. Mecklenburg County students in grades 9-10 are eligible to apply. Applications for YLCM Class of 2017 are due by November 30, 2016. After completing YLCM, participants will continue their civic leadership as active leaders in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Youth Council.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Youth Council is the student advisory council for the City of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. The council helps local teens to take an active role in learning how to solve challenges impacting Charlotte and Mecklenburg County. Student leaders meet regularly with local officials and community leaders, learn about district and community issues and different points of view, build leadership, represent Charlotte-Mecklenburg youth at local, state, and national events and in policy conversations, and more. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Youth Council is a program of Charlotte nonprofit GenerationNation in partnership with CMS, the City of Charlotte, and Mecklenburg County.
Charlotte nonprofit GenerationNation connects classroom education with hands-on learning to build civic literacy and leadership from an early age.
