Charlotte-Mecklenburg's youth civic leaders, members of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Youth Council, welcomed thousands of national local officials and youth council members to Charlotte for the 2017 National League of Cities City Summit.
As the City’s Youth Council, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Youth Council (CMYC) successfully attended and played a leadership role in NLC 2017 Charlotte youth conference.
Fifty CMYC youth participated in NLC activities during week. Five CMYC youth served for 8 months on the NLC Youth Delegate Planning Committee and played a role in planning and leading youth conference. CMYC youth delivered opening addresses at the youth conference and at Carowinds and presented 3 different sessions on topics including diversity and inclusion; gentrification, urbanization, and affordable housing; and city-sponsored social media. Each presentation and workshop was 90 minutes.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Youth Council (CMYC) is the official youth advisory council for the City of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. It is an innovative partnership between local governments, youth, and GenerationNation. CMYC is a diverse group of student leaders representing schools and neighborhoods across the city. CMYC advises adult leaders and is active in helping solve civic challenges youth care about such as economic opportunity.
